MILWAUKEE, WI (May 2012) – Six teams of high school students and their mentors have been working tirelessly for the last 100 days in a competition to restore vintage bikes as part of the BUILD Moto Mentor Program. BUILD, a non-profit education outreach initiative founded by The Iron Horse Hotel in 2011, is designed to give young adults the opportunity to learn valuable technical, business and interpersonal skills. On Thursday, May 31, the teams’ efforts will culminate in a kick off event in the Yard of The Iron Horse Hotel. This event is designed to not only celebrate the completion of each bike, but also to award prizes to the most deserving teams. In order to compete, each team must have completed the restoration of a “barn-find condition” vintage Honda CB175 motorcycle to American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) standards in just 100 days with a budget of $2,000. Teams will be awarded prizes in the following categories: “Fastest Bike” (chassis dynamometer competition), “Art Bike (judged by a panel of regional experts),” “Facebook Favorite” (social media-driven voting), and “Best of Show” (on-site event voting).
